BGCTC’s Youth Safety and Program Updates Related to COVID-19 Outbreak

April 1, 2020 – BGCTC Continues Hosting Modified Out-of-School Camp at Three Sites to Curb COVID-19 Outbreak

Despite school closures and the current “stay home-stay safe” measures in WA state aimed at “flattening the curve” of the COVID-19 global pandemic, BGCTC continues serving kids who need us most. Club programming and services now focus on providing emergency care to children of first responders, healthcare workers, essential community personnel, and Club parents who must work to maintain employment. Club facilities are open at three BGCTC branches (Lacey, Tumwater, and Rochester) to serve those who need us most.

Clubs will remain open for as long as doing so is deemed safe, allowed by government and health officials, and is safe for youth and staff.

March 16, 2020 – Out-of-School Camp Details Amended Based on State Mandates to Curb COVID-19 Outbreak

Registration for out-of-school camp begins Wednesday, March 18 at the respective branches. The following temporary changes to our program model and expectations from families will be in place. For youth and families able to secure a spot at these camps:

  • The number of children served at out-of-school camps has been reduced to meet state requirements banning gatherings of more than 50 people while meeting specific criteria for hygiene and social distancing. See your respective branch guidelines below.
  • Out-of-school camp opportunities are for current members and, where capacity allows, First Responder families most in need. Families with at least one adult caregiver at home are not qualified to receive this service.

The following guidelines have been instated pertaining to BGCTC’s plans to provide out-of-school camp (full day programming) at its six Branches during county-wide school closures:

  • Allow extra time for pick-up and drop-off for required health screening and check-in procedures. Help prepare the child in your care in advance by explaining how each day begins with a temperature screening and health questionnaire.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided thanks to coordinated efforts with local partner school districts.
  • Programs groups must remain small and all children must stay within assigned groups.

We appreciate your patience as we navigate through and work to respond to the best of our ability to community needs. Contact your respective Branch for details.
