This year's Foundation for the Future Breakfast was a remarkable success. We celebrated the accomplishments of our organization with 500 friends and supporters on May 31st at St Martin's Pavilion. With a keynote speech by Coach Lorenzo Romar and an address by Governor Chris Gregoire, the audience was inspired to support the kids and the Clubs.

Youth of the Year

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County completed an exhaustive search of our membership and considered all possibilities before selecting Jordan Putcshcer as our Youth of the Year. Jordan will be competing against youth from across the state for a chance to be selected as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Youth of the Year!

Jordan, 17 years old, is a senior at Tumwater High School and has been a fixture at the Tumwater Club for the last four years. Jordan will now represent us in the Washington State Youth of the Year competition in Seattle and Olympia on March 20th and 21st.

On the 20th, the area clubs Youth of the Year will assemble at Qwest Field for the annual competition and judging. On the 21st, the youth will join Governor Christine Gregoire at the Governor's Mansion for the announcement of State Youth of the Year.

If selected to represent Washington State, Jordan will join five other regioinally seleted youth in Washington DC for a final competition. The final destination being the Oval Office and a Congressional Breakfast with the nations leaders! Good luck, Jordan! We are proud to have you represent us!

The Youth of the Year program recognizes outstanding contributions to a member's family, school, community and Club; academic excellence; and personal challenges and obstacles overcome.

Each state Youth of the Year compete regionally. Regional winners then vie for the title of National Youth of the Year, who is installed by the President of the United States.

Congratulations Elijah Cox, Lacey Youth of the Year!

Elijah was selected from over 100 kids who attend the Lacey Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurton County to represent his club in the annual Youth of the Year competition. Elijah Cox is among the top 10 students in Power Hour, a homework program at the Club. He attends Nisqually Middle School where he is an 8th grader who gets As & Bs. When not doing homework, he can be found on the basketball court with Ian, Stephen and DJ. He always tries to involve the younger kids in Bump and helps the staff to clean up at the end of the day.

Elijah, we thank you for the difference you make at your club!

The expansion added a quiet homework room, a dedicated space for the arts and an upgrade to the technology lab. In addition, we added creature comforts such as more bathrooms, two offices and a kitchen.

We encourage you to stop by and see what's in store. Thank you for the tremendous work performed by the entire construction team -- especially Berschauer Phillips and The Rants Group.

BGCTC celebrated the holiday with dinner and a visit from the Ol' St. Nick! A wondrous evening was had at the Tumwater Club as we enjoyed a fabulous dinner prepared by the chefs at Lucky Eagle Casino.
